Services

In addition to "traditional" styles of client-centered , customized massage on the table (i.e. Swedish, Relaxation, Therapeutic, and Deep Tissue techniques) I also offer the following services and modalities:

Thai Massage

Thai bodywork or Thai massage uses joint compressions, stretches, full-body rocking, mobilizations, and range of motion work while the client is fully clothed on a mat. Thai bodywork is both relaxing & restorative for recipients and its movements can ease joint pain/stiffness, and improve range of motion & flexibility. Many call it “lazy person’s yoga” as it has a rich historical connection to yoga poses and traditions. While Thai bodywork and Shiatsu often overlap, Thai bodywork techniques tend to be broader and emphasize yogic poses and stretching while shiatsu emphasizes working along the meridian channels, and tends to be more precise and specific.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu translates from Japanese as “finger pressure.” It works directly with the body’s natural life force energy known as chi (or ki or qi). I affectionately describe shiatsu to new people as a harmonious combination of energy work and massage but with a very martial arts flow to it that is both nurturing and effective. Many of the concepts, practices, and theories it employs overlap with those of martial arts, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), acupuncture, Chinese herbalism, and Qigong. Shiatsu shares many similarities with Thai bodywork in its uses of stretching, rocking, and compressions, but shiatsu is often more specifically targeted and precise. Having a connection with the client and tuning into their muscles and energy are equally emphasized. Using finger pressure, palming, shaking, stretching, rocking, and compressions along the energy lines of the body called meridians or channels, a practitioner facilitates the body’s natural balance through restorative, manual manipulation. Many enjoy Shiatsu for pain relief, stress relief, and centering.

Reiki

Often translated as “universal life force energy” or “spiritually guided energy,” reiki is a relaxation healing technique and energy work modality that emphasizes the flow of limitless universal life force energy found everywhere. Unlike many other energy healing modalities, reiki benefits both the recipient and the giver. Developed in late 19th and early 20th century Japan by Mikao Usui, with a rich history, reiki promotes physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional wellness & relaxation. Many learn and practice reiki to promote inner peace, mental clarity, pain relief, stress relief, and self-care.

ACE Massage Cupping

Massage Cupping is a modality that uses cups dynamically without moxibustion or stationary placements, which are more common in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Suction is achieved through a pump, pneumatic machine or through squeezing the cups, depending on the materials used (glass, plastic, silicone, etc…). The suction effect, unlike direct mechanical force, allows tissue to separate transversely and longitudinally. Massage cupping works effectively for treating scar tissue, improving blood circulation/lymphatic movement, reducing adhesions, treating trigger points, separating muscle fibers, and saving the therapist’s hands from repetitive strain.
